When it comes to sales, personality types are everything. If you don't have the right personality type for the job, it's going to be tough to make sales. And if you can't understand the personality type of your customer, you're not going to be able to sell them anything. In this blog post, we'll discuss why understanding your customer's personality type is so important in sales. We'll also give some examples of how knowing your customer's personality type can help you close more sales as well as how to figure out the personality type of your customer.
What You Need to Know About Personality and Sales
If you're in sales, then you've probably heard of Myers Briggs. Myers Briggs is a personality test that divides people into 16 different personality types. If you know the Myers Briggs type of your customer, you can better understand how they think and what motivates them. This knowledge can be invaluable when it comes to sales because you'll know what kind of language to use when talking to them and what kind of arguments are likely to resonate with them.
For example, let's say you're selling a product that requires a lot of technical explanation. If your customer is an Intuitive type on the Myers Briggs scale, they're going to want to know all about how the product works and why it's the best option on the market. On the other hand, if your customer is a Sensing type, they're going to want to know about the practical applications of the product and how it's going to make their life easier.
Know Yourself and Know Your Customer
As a salesperson, it's important to be able to adjust your language and approach depending on the personality type of your customer. If you can't do that, you're not going to be able to sell them anything.
Knowing your own Myers Briggs type can also be helpful for you as a salesperson. For example, if you're a Thinking type, you might tend to come across as cold or unemotional. This isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's something that you should be aware of so that you can compensate for it. If you're selling a product that requires an emotional connection, such as a wedding dress, you might need to make an extra effort to connect with your customer on an emotional level.
In short, understanding Myers Briggs personality types is essential for salespeople. If you don't know the Myers Briggs type of your customer, it's time to find out. Once you do, you'll be able to better understand how they think and what motivates them. And that knowledge will help you close more sales.
How to figure out your customer's personality type
If you're not sure what Myers Briggs type your customer is, don't worry. There are a few things you can do to try and figure it out.
First, take a look at how they communicate. Do they tend to use big words and long sentences? If so, they're probably an Intuitive type. Do they use concrete language and focus on the here and now? If so, they're probably a Sensing type.
Next, take a look at how they make decisions. Do they like to weigh all the options before making a decision? If so, they're probably a Thinking type. Or do they prefer to go with their gut instinct? If so, they're probably a Feeling type.
Finally, take a look at their overall demeanour. Do they tend to be outgoing and social? If so, they're probably an Extroverted type. Or do they prefer to stay in the background and let others take the lead? If so, they're probably an Introverted type.
By taking all of these factors into account, you should be able to get a good idea of what Myers Briggs type your customer is. Once you know that, you'll be able to better understand how they think and what motivates them. And that knowledge will help you close more sales.
